reCAPTCHA Dokuwiki plugin

This is the home page of the reCAPTCHA plugin for dokuwiki.

The plugin provides a captcha for the registration form and the edit forms. It uses the service from reCAPTCHA which generates captchas using text from books scanned with OCR. Furthermore recaptcha provides accessible captchas.

There is already an excellent captcha plugin by Andreas Gohr which can be used on all input forms not only the registration form. We simply wanted to use recaptcha for the captcha generation because we think it's a cool project.

Older versions:

from subversion

get it directly from subversion:

To install it, simply copy the folder 'recaptcha' into your plugins directory (/lib/plugins).

The Plugin can be configured on the configuration page. For the plugin to work you first need an account on After the registration you get a public and a private key. Both keys must be
specified in the configuration. You can also select a skin for the captcha. The Plugin has its own language setting because reCAPTCHA provides less languages than dokuwiki. By default the plugin tries to use the same language as dokuwiki. You can override this if you like.
The plugin can be configured to protect the registration form and the edit forms. Additionally you can specificy if captchas should also be displayed to registered users.

Note: The plugin won't be active until you entered your keys in the configuration dialog.

As of 28.12.09 the discussion plugin also works with this plugin. The latest version of the discussion plugin can be found here:

Can I use Recaptcha Plugin at the comments o the discuss?

    1. Nov 18, 2008

Unfortunately the recaptcha plugin at the moment only supports the registration form. The original captcha can also be used in comments and discussions.

I'm currently using the quite effective "captcha" plugin to secure registration and edit pages, but I would prefer to use reCAPTCHA for humanitarian reasons. Any hope that you'll add functionality for edit pages in the near future?

I would also like to implement reCAPTCHA in our upcoming dokuwiki. I prefer reCAPTCHA for humanitarian reasons as well since the preservation and conversion of old books and documents are of an utmost importance to us all.

I would like to implement it in a way, so that in order to access a specific mail form on a public or a members page, one had to solve the reCAPTCHA for the specific wiki page to open.

Hope that you will consider putting an effort into developing the plugin in that direction

    Kind regards

I can't find a reference to your DokuWiki-reCaptcha plugin on where the project presents available reCaptcha plugins. The question is: Are there any problems with your plugin? I hope you don't find my question impolite.

I was just to lazy to make a wiki entry on reCAPTCHA (smile) But I fixed that now:

I'm not aware of any problems with the plugin apart from the issue with the discussion plugin (for which there is already a patch pending approval).

i have had to disable the recaptcha plugin, since my dokuwiki didnt allow any registrations - strange enough it worked on discussions.

    is this a known issue?

That's the first time I've heard that. Originally the recaptcha plugin has been specifically written for the registration form so it definitely should work there.
